What Is Going On Right Below California?

Divers who share this will always see more fish in their dives

3 sea-giants in ten days?!. Two of them are Giant Oarfish (Regalecus glesne), seen alive for almost a couple of times in the history, other one named Sabre-Toothed Whale (Mesoplodon stejnegeri) has never seen alive! In fact, scientists say this is a very rare species. Why these giants are beaching? Is there something disturbing them deep down there? Or these huge fish are trying to warn us about a natural disaster?

10 days ago, on 13th of October, a Giant Oarfish was seen. It was 5.5 meters (18 feet) long seen in Catalina Island, California. This was published by Dive With Seaman last week. After a couple of days, on 15th of October, another weird-looking giant, a Sabre-Toothed Whale (also called Stejneger’s Beaked Whale) found dead at Venice Beach. Last but not least, last Friday, on 18th of October, another Giant Oarfish washed up in Southern California at Oceanside Harbor. It is 4 meters (13.5 feet) long and weighs 90 kg (200 pound).

Last Giant Oarfish beached in California just like these two scenario was last seen in 1996. A group of U.S. Navy Seals found a Giant Oarfish in Coronado, close to San Diego. Finding a Giant Oarfish is interesting, because this fish lives deep in the ocean and they don’t surface like dolphins and whales. Besides, this creature is a source for sea-serpent tales for sailors and fishermen. So why these 3 giants surfaced and beached in the same region?

There is a strong theory about a natural disaster: an earthquake. Japanese people believe that the oarfish beach themselves to be able to warn us for an earthquake. In fact, couple of oarfish surfaced in Japan just like it is now in California, one year before the Fukushima and the great tsunami in 2011. What might be the reason if we think about it in a scientific way? Deep sea fish like the Giant Oarfish might be much more sensitive to seismic surge. Because of the discomfort and stress, these fish may be surfacing dead. Of course this is just a theory and science hasn’t decided a relationship between dead/surfaced animals and the earthquakes. Researches still go on.

3 giants in a row. It is interesting and confusing but I personally don’t believe that two Giant Oarfish and a rare Sabre-Toothed Whale give us the message to pack up and start to run away from a possible earthquake. But still, I am waiting for couple of more deep sea fish from the beaches of California.
